TRANSPORT.

We drive on the left in Kenya and most cars are right hand drive.

Delegates transport.

Delegates will be responsible for their own transport from the airport upon arrival to their chosen hotels but transport will be provided for delegates from the recommended hotels to the conference venue at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, UN Complex Gigiri and back to the hotels during the conference days. For bus schedule to and fro the designated hotels, click here

Delegates staying in hotels other than the designated ones are requested to identify designated hotels close to theirs and take the bus/van serving the given hotel to and from the conference.

For transport to and from the airport during the conference, it is recommended that delegates use taxis which are available at the airport and in designated areas of the city and are identifiable by either a yellow color with a black circle bearing a number in white, a yellow line cutting across the body of the vehicle or stickers bearing company or taxi association name. The taxis are reliable and charge based on distance. Negotiate the price before embarking on the journey to avoid any misunderstandings.

Public transport

The transport system is operated by private companies and individuals using buses and minibuses of various carrying capacities. They do not observe any particular time schedules but are generally available to various destinations on a continuous basis throughout the day from the early hours up to late in the night. The destinations are identified by both name and numbers.

The public transport vehicles commonly called MATATUs may vary their charges depending on the time of the day or circumstances that they may deem sufficient to vary their charges. All passengers in private or public vehicles are required by law to fasten their seatbelts at all times while in a moving vehicle. Random checks by the authorities are carried out and those found without seat belts are instantly arrested and taken to court. Whereas the fines may not be steep, the process is painful and extremely inconveniencing.
